Poem Devnagari केयूराणि न भूषयन्ति पुरुषं हारा न चन्द्रोज्ज्वलाः न स्नानं न विलेपनं न कुसुमं नालङ्कृता मूर्धजाः । वाण्येका समलङ्करोति पुरुषं या संस्कृता धार्यते क्षीयन्ते खलु भूषणानि सततं वाग्भूषणं भूषणम् ।।
Telugu కేయూరాణి న భూషయంతి పురుషం హారా న చన్ద్రోజ్జ్వలా న స్నానం న విలేపనం న కుసుమం నాలంకృతా మూర్ధజాః వాణ్యేకా సమలంకరోతి పురుషం యా సంస్కృతాధార్యతే క్షీయన్తే ఖలు భూషణాని సతతం వాగ్భూషణం భూషణం
English Keyūrāṇi na bhūṣayanti puruṣaṁ hārā na candrojjvalāḥ na snānaṁ na vilepanaṁ na kusumaṁ nālaṅkṛtā mūrdhajāḥ | vāṇyekā samalaṅkaroti puruṣaṁ yā saṁskṛtā dhāryate kṣīyante khalu bhūṣaṇāni satataṁ vāgbhūṣaṇaṁ bhūṣaṇam ||
Meaning Shiny bracelets do not decorate a man, not even ornaments which have the radiance of the moon. Neither do a good bath, applying good fragrance to the body, flowers and decorating hair will decorate a man.
Speech alone which is filled with good culture and moral values decorates a person completely. Materialistic ornaments and external decorations deteriorate over time; ornament of speech is the real ornament!
Introspection Activity - The person reading this is required to sit and think about all the externals decorations one can make to themselves but what if they speak very harshly or in a hurting manner? However, think of a person who is not decorated externally but can soothe the soul with speech. You could wear an expensive watch or go in an expensive car but it too will get deteriorated. Isn't it? A great speech is the real deal!
